King & Queen to attend Betfred Derby at Epsom Downs this weekend
  • Royals to attend Epsom Derby
  • Will also be at Royal Ascot a couple of weeks later
  • Queen Elizabeth II’s tradition to continue

There has been a big boost ahead of the Betfred Derby next weekend after the Jockey Club confirmed that the King and the Queen will both be in attendance at Epsom Downs.

King & Queen To Be In Attendance For Epsom Derby

The royal family have been a huge part of British racing for many years now and the King and Queen are often seen at Royal Ascot, which takes place later this month (June 16-20).

However, they will now venture out to Epsom Downs this weekend for the Betfred Derby.

Aside from Royal Ascot, the Epsom Derby is one of the biggest events of the British flat season.

Queen Elizabeth II was an avid Epsom Derby fan and only missed two renewals during the entirety of her reign.

Epsom general manager Jim Allen spoke out on the news:

We’re honoured and thrilled that the King and Queen will be joining us at Epsom Downs on Derby day.

Their Majesties show great enthusiasm, interest and support for horse racing in the UK, and their attendance next week will be a proud moment for all of the team here and everyone connected with the racecourse.

Derby day provides joy and entertainment to millions of people around the world as one of Britain’s most famous and iconic events, and royal attendance has been synonymous with the meeting for generations. We’re delighted that Their Majesties will be continuing this tradition next week.

Who Won The 2025 Epsom Derby?

The 2025 Epsom Derby was won by Lambourn, giving Aidan O’Brien an 11th win in the race.

He’s won the last three renewals and much to no surprise, he’s got the favourite this time around.

Lambourn slipped the field last year and was quite a surprise winner when sent off at 13/2.

Benvenuto Cellini is the current market leader for the Ballydoyle battalion, but it’s an open looking race and one that is tough to call.
