James Ferguson To Quit Training Next Month

Just under five years after training a Group 1 winner, Newmarket-based trainer James Ferguson will be handing his licence in.

He will be taking up a new role in the international bloodstock insurance sector, an offer he said he couldn’t turn down.

Ferguson was the trainer of El Bodgeon, who won a French Group 1 in October 2021.

He also trained Deauville Legend who won the Group 2 Great Voltiguer Stakes before finishing fourth in a Melbourne Cup.

Ferguson has enjoyed plenty of success in his seven years training, but will end his operation at the end of July.

James Ferguson Confirms Training Operation Will Close Down

Training racehorses has been both a dream and a privilege, and I leave with enormous pride in what we’ve achieved over the past seven years. This decision is driven by opportunity I have been offered – I remain very positive about the sport and I’m looking forward to staying closely involved in the international bloodstock world in a new capacity.

It remains business as usual at Machell Place until the end of July with some exciting horses to look forward to, especially recent Newbury maiden winner God Given Talent who looks set to run in the Coventry Stakes at Royal Ascot.”

Ferguson has already has nine winners this season from just 57 runners.

He had 26 winners from 215 runners last season but his best efforts were in 2024 with 33 winners that season.
