French Derby Tips & 1-2-3 Selections: Oxagon A Solid Each-Way Option
Well there’s plenty to un-pick in this year’s Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly.
I thought that OXAGON was worthy of an each-way bet considering he’s got a nice draw in stall 3.
John & Thady Gosden’s charge was supplemented for €72,000 earlier this week and he’ll have to finish at least fourth for connections to get that money back.
He ran a lovely race on reappearance to win the Group 3 Craven Stakes at Newmarket. The son of Frankel seems to have really matured over the winter and looks a strong three-year-old in the making.
It wasn’t his best performance in the 2000 Guineas at Newmarket but there was excuses as he wasn’t able to get a lead.
I think stepping up to 1m2f at Chantilly will play to his strengths and if he gets a lead from his low draw then he could be tough to pass.
He was well beat in the 2000 Guineas but he’ll be better over further and this trip should see him more at home.
It’s also worth noting that connections (Gosden and same owner) won the Prix du Jockey Club with Mishriff in 2020 and I feel they have a similar profile.

On paper, Constitution River is the best horse in the race given what he’s shown so far, but there are worries here.
Aidan O’Brien’s horse has a nightmare draw in stall 15 and it could be hard to get a prominent enough position and he’ll likely have to be dropped in.
He has every right to be favourite for the contest but all considered, he’s worth taking on.
But I can see him staying on late so that’s why he makes it into my 1-2-3 French Derby tips. He was a sublime winner of the Dee Stakes at Chester and he’s clearly a top class horse, but no horse has won from a double-figure draw since 2015.
Best of the French should be Daryzan, who could be absolutely anything judged on his fine debut effort at Saint Cloud a few weeks ago.
Connections opt to go straight for a French Classic and being a half-brother to Arc de Triomphe favourite Daryz, he has to be respected.
Daryzan also holds an entry in the Arc de Triomphe, and could face his half-brother there.
