After winning the Craven and finishing sixth in the 2000 Guineas, Oxagon has been supplemented for the French Derby (Prix du Jockey Club.

Oxagon Supplemented For French Derby (Prix du Jockey Club)

John & Thady Gosden’s horse has made a solid start to his three-year-old campaign and will now head to the Prix du Jockey Club after being supplemented on Wednesday.

He impressed on seasonal reappearance when landing the Group 3 Craven Stakes at Newmarket.

However he didn’t quite run so well in the 2000 Guineas, but stepping up a couple of furlongs for his next engagement should allow him to improve.

And that next engagement will be the Prix du Jockey Club at Chantilly, otherwise known as the French Derby.

Champion jockey Oisin Murphy has ridden the son of Frankel on six of his seven career starts to date and will get the leg up again on Sunday.

Oxagon’s run at Chantilly could be a stepping stone to a Group 1 at Royal Ascot, with the colt holding one entry for the meeting.

He’s currently entered in the St James’s Palace over 1m. And it’s not just Royal Ascot he has entries for, he’s also in the Coral-Eclipse at Sandown in early July, over 1m2f.

That entry in the Eclipse could be his next move after the Prix du Jockey Club, if he takes well to the extra yardage at Chantilly.

He’ll be joined by Aidan O’Brien’s Constitution River, who was a confirmed runner in the race on Wednesday too.

Has John Gosden Ever Won The Prix du Jockey Club?

Yes, the Gosden yard have won the French Derby (Prix du Jockey Club). They won it with Mishriff in 2020.

And interestingly, Mishriff also had the same owners as Oxagon does, so could we be looking at Gosden winner in a French Classic again?

The Gosdens came close in last year’s renewal too. Detain came third, losing by 3/4 length to Camille Pissarro.

Hopefully the supplementary fee of €72,000 will be worth it. He’ll need to finish at least 4th to get that money back.
