After winning both the Cheltenham and Punchestown Gold Cup, Gaelic Warrior has been given an Anglo-Irish rating of 180.

Gaelic Warrior Rated 180 After Gold Cup Double

It was a season to remember for Gaelic Warrior and he finished top of the end-of-season Anglo-Irish Jumps Classification with a rating of 180.

That rating is fully deserved and he becomes the first horse to achieve such feat since A Plus Tard in 2021/22.

Gaelic Warrior won the Cheltenham Gold Cup on his first attempt, beating Jango Baie by eight lengths.

He proved that was no fluke when following up in the Punchestown Gold Cup a month later, destroying classy stablemate Fact to File by 28 lengths.

Only one horse has been rated higher than that since 2012/13 and that was Sprinter Sacre for Nicky Henderson.

Mullins – who has an Arc de Triomph entry later this year also had the second in the Classification. Champion Chase winner Il Etait Temps was given a rating of 174.

Shay Quinn, Senior IHRB National Hunt Handicapper commented on Gaelic Warrior’s rating:

He added three more Grade One victories to an already glittering CV, beginning with a gutsy success in the John Durkan, hwere he narrowly denied Fact To File. Defeats followed at Kempton and Leopardstown, but Gaelic Warrior announced himself as the premier staying chaser of the campaign with a brilliant victory in the Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Still only eight, Gaelic Warrior has time firmly on his side and every chance to establish himself as the outstanding staying chaser of his generation.”

Gaelic Warrior Favourite To Win 2027 Gold Cup

It’s no surprise that the 2027 Cheltenham Gold Cup betting odds see Rich and Sussanah Ricci’s horse firmly at the top of the market.

The manor in which he won in March suggested he probably could have done another lap of Prestbury Park.

He can be backed at around 2/1 to go back-to-back in the National Hunt racing’s grandest steeplechase.
