ITV Racing Newbury Lucky 15 Tips – 16/05/26
With four selections from Newbury I’ll be playing an each-way Lucky 15 alongside level-stake singles.
1:25pm Newbury – Aston Park Stakes (Group 3, 1m4f): ARABIAN FORCE
ARABIAN FORCE made an encouraging reappearance run when second in the Prix Lord Seymour at Longchamp last month but just bumped into Zarraf who won at a big price.
William Haggas was in good form at York in the week and with the stable going well I think this progressive sort can get the job done.
Whilst he’s without a win outside of novice company, he ran well in strong races in his debut season last year and can go very close here.
Haggas has won two of the last five renewals of the race and this son of Lope De Vega holds a fancy Coronation Cup entry next month. If he wins here, which I’m expecting him too then he’s well worth his place at Group 1 level over a mile-and-a-half.
2:00pm Newbury – Fillies’ Trial Stakes (Listed, 1m2f): ESNA
ESNA is very interesting in this contest. She ran better than the bare form suggests last time in the Pretty Polly at Newmarket and I think she can build on that.
She finished fourth of 6 at Newmarket, but she made late headway but it was too late as the winner was already well clear.
Ryan Moore takes over in the saddle for the first time and her close fourth in the Prix Marcel Boussac last season reads well with winner Diamond Necklace recently taking the French 1000 Guineas.
There’s a couple of question marks about some of her rivals so I’m siding with one I think can improve the most from their last run.
2:35pm Newbury – Lockinge Stakes (Group 1, 1m): NOTABLE SPEECH
Godolphin have won the Lockinge more times than any other owners and I’m taking NOTABLE SPEECH to give them the perfect 10.
Whilst the Charlie Appleby form is a worry, I think Notable Speech has been mapped out perfectly for this race and can give the yard a well-needed winner.
The yard won this with Modern Games in 2023 and he ran in the same Keeneleand race as Notable Speech did last month en route to taking the Lockinge.
Notable Speech could have won on reappearance at Keeneland but met horrid traffic problems in running so that performance can be upgraded – slightly.
He was fourth in this race last year but went to Newbury with no prep run so this year I think he can go three places better and take the prize.
Also worth noting he beat three of Saturday’s rivals when landing the Breeders’ Cup Mile at Del Mar at the end of last season.
3:10pm Newbury – Carnarvon Stakes (Listed, 6f): ARDISIA
ARDISIA ran poorly on reappearance at Newbury in April but that was over 7f so can be forgiven.
He bounced right back to form when fourth at a huge price in the Commonwealth Cup trial at Ascot when last seen and that form gives him a chance back down in grade here.
Gave his running almost every time in 12 starts as a two-year-old but I think he’s going to be even better this season and should be right on the premises.
Much at home over 6f so think this looks like a good opportunity. Colin Keane rides for the first time too, which is an eye-catching jockey booking.
